What is McKinsey Sea Wolf?
McKinsey Sea Wolf is the optimisation game in Solve. Across three ocean sites you pick microbes whose combined traits hit each site’s treatment targets, within 30 minutes.
Forums still say Ocean Cleanup, the microbe game, or Sea Wolf game. Same module. It sits next to Redrock in every Solve sitting.
Where Sea Wolf sits in Solve
Sea Wolf is always 30 minutes. You complete it in the same sitting as Redrock (35 minutes). A 65-minute invite is those two modules. An 85-minute invite usually adds Sustainable Futures Lab after them.

The four Sea Wolf phases
Sea Wolf is 30 minutes across three ocean sites. Speed and trade-offs matter more than clever maths.

Profiling
Select two characteristics to prioritise. This signals how you reason; it does not change which microbes appear later. Keep it under 30 seconds.

Categorising
Sort ten microbes into keep, save for next site, or reject. You get partial information about the next site. Move through this phase efficiently.

Prospecting
Build a pool of ten microbes: start with six, then choose four more through successive choices. Rough filtering beats perfect optimisation here.

Treatment
Pick three microbes from your pool and submit. Attribute averages and desired/undesired traits drive your score. This is where most of your time should go.
The Sea Wolf solver
During practice, a solver shows which microbe combinations hit the targets without manual calculation. That builds pattern recognition for test day, when no solver is available. Use the Sea Wolf Excel solver alongside timed simulator runs, not instead of them.
How to prepare

30 minutes, in the same sitting as Redrock (and Sustainable Futures Lab if your invite is 85 minutes). You cannot pause mid-module.
How is Sea Wolf scored?
Each site starts at 100% effectiveness. Penalties apply for attribute averages outside range, missing the desired trait, or including an undesired trait. Time pressure is the hard part, not the maths.
