How to Get Your McKinsey Solve Score
Candidate reports suggest most people hear only whether they are moving forward after Solve, with no number attached. If you want the score behind that decision, you can simply ask for it.
This guide covers what McKinsey has said it can share, how to request it, and what to do if the answer is no.
What McKinsey has said it can share
McKinsey’s Solve FAQ from August 2021 says the firm can provide the score you achieved and, on request, your percentile range benchmarked against other applicants. It also says it cannot provide the maximum score, use cases or screenshots of Solve.
So the thing to ask for is simply your score. You will usually be given it in two formats: the raw score and your decile. For example, “556 raw score, which places you in the 10th decile”. The decile is not an exact percentile; it tells you which tenth of applicants you fall into.
Policies can change. McKinsey’s more recent Solve FAQ (August 2025) explains how results feed into the recruiter’s decision, but we have not been able to confirm that it repeats the score-sharing wording. Treat a score as something you can reasonably request, not something you are guaranteed to receive.
What McKinsey will not share
McKinsey cannot provide:
- the maximum possible score;
- the use cases (the scenarios inside the games);
- screenshots of Solve.
Without the maximum score, a raw number on its own is hard to interpret. That is why the decile is the more useful of the two: it shows where you stand against other applicants.
How to request your score
- You do not need to wait for a final decision. There is no need to hold off until you hear whether you are progressing to the next round. Give it a few days after completing Solve, then ask.
- Email your recruiter. Use the contact in your Solve invitation or outcome email. McKinsey’s FAQ directs candidates to their recruiter for non-technical questions.
- Write from the same email address. Use the address you applied with, so the recruiter can look up your application and find your result.
- Keep it short and polite. Your email may land in a generic inbox, so there is no need for a long message or a named recipient.
If a particular recruiter is slow or unhelpful (which is very unlikely), you can ask a different McKinsey office instead. The process is the same worldwide, so any office can point you in the right direction.
Here is a template you can adapt:
Subject: Request for my Solve score
Hello,
I hope you are well. Please could you kindly provide me with my Solve score, including my raw score and decile? Thank you very much for your help.
Kind regards, [Your name]
