Premise 1: All managers can view confidential documents.

Premise 2: All team leaders are managers.

What each test actually asks of you

Three tests, back to back, with a separate clock on each. The simulator runs them in the same order and at the same pace as the live assessment.

Test 1

Critical Thinking

16 questions · 12 minutes · 45 seconds a question

Four question families, all of which turn on reading exactly what is claimed and nothing more. The hardest part is not the logic: it is resisting what you know about the world when the premises say otherwise.

  • Syllogisms: two premises, one conclusion that must follow
  • Statement relationships: contradicts, supports, restates, or irrelevant
  • Assumptions: the unstated step an argument depends on
  • Rule application: did the application follow the rule, and was the result expected

Test 2

Numerical Reasoning

12 questions · 10 minutes · 50 seconds a question

Business arithmetic at speed. Nothing here needs more than percentages, ratios and averages, but the distractors are built from the specific mistakes people make when they are rushing.

  • Percentage change, percentage error and compounding
  • Ratios, rates, mixtures and shares of a total
  • Averages that are not the average of the averages
  • Multi-step figures derived from a business data table

Test 3

Working With Data

12 questions · 10 minutes · 50 seconds a question

Half data literacy, half interpretation. Several questions reward noticing what a table or chart does not let you conclude, including when the right answer is that you cannot tell.

  • Quantitative, categorical and continuous variables
  • Data quality: duplicates, outliers, impossible values, missing fields
  • Choosing the chart that fits the question
  • Reading tables, line charts, bar charts and scatter plots

Question

Consider the statements below and choose the option that best describes whether Statement 2 contradicts, supports, restates, or is irrelevant to the logic of Statement 1.

Statement 1: Sometimes, despite careful planning and execution, marketing campaigns may not yield the expected results. When this happens, marketers have to analyze what went wrong and adjust their strategies accordingly.

Statement 2: Changing marketing tactics for a marketing campaign is a sign that a campaign was not properly planned or executed.

Which of the following best describes the logical relationship between these statements?

Built to be run more than once

Aptitude tests reward pattern recognition and pace, and both come from repetition.

A fresh question set every run
Each test draws its questions from a pool several times larger than the test itself, balanced so the mix of question types stays the same. Run it again and you get a different paper, not a memory test.
The clock behaves like the real one
Each test has its own countdown, and it does not pause. If time runs out mid-test, whatever you have not answered is marked wrong and the assessment moves on, exactly as it would on the day.
Practice questions before the timer starts
Every test opens with unscored warm-up questions, as the live assessment does, so the format is familiar before anything counts.
Worked answers for every question
Afterwards you get your score per test and a full walkthrough: what you picked, what scored, and why. Several explanations name the specific trap a distractor was built around.
Practice mode when you want to slow down
Switch off the clock and the answer and explanation appear as soon as you choose, so you can work through the reasoning rather than race it.

Common questions

What is the Bain online assessment?
Three timed aptitude tests sat back to back: Critical Thinking (16 questions in 12 minutes), Numerical Reasoning (12 questions in 10 minutes) and Working With Data (12 questions in 10 minutes). Each one opens with unscored practice questions, and the clock does not pause once a test starts.
How long does it take?
32 minutes of scored time across 40 questions, plus the practice questions at the start of each test. Allow around 45 minutes end to end.
Can I use a calculator?
Candidates are generally told they may use pen, paper and a calculator, but not AI tools. The simulator assumes the same, and the Numerical Reasoning questions are set so a calculator helps with speed rather than removing the need to reason.
Do I get the same questions twice?
No. Each test draws from a pool several times its own size, balanced so the mix of question types stays constant. Running it again gives you a different paper.
Is it free?
Yes. The trial is a full-length paper with all three tests and the worked answers, free with an account and repeatable as often as you like. Full access adds four more papers, random mixes, practice mode and single-test drills.
